Eleven mares have been confirmed in the final field for Friday night’s 2016 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.
Four-year-old Don’t Doubt Mamma has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and should prove extremely difficult to beat on Friday after drawing into the 2016 Stocks Stakes field in barrier 5.
Posting six wins and a further four minors through only fifteen career starts so far, Don’t Doubt Mamma returned to racing this year for success in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) on February 20th.
Progressing to second behind Badawiya in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m), the Not A Single Doubt mare returned to winning form in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) but failed to fire in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) and was returned to the paddock.
Resuming this time for fifth in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m), Don’t Doubt Mamma will carry winning form into the Stocks Stakes after winning the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago.
Miss Rose De Lago is a proven performer at the course, distance and under the conditions of the Stocks Stakes and will be partnered by champion hoop Damien Oliver in her third-up appearance this time.
Winning the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley most notably in autumn, Miss Rose De Lago returned to racing this time for an impressive win in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m), but failed to fire in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) last time out.
The Lindsay Park operation will launch an impressive two-pronged attack in the 2016 Stocks Stakes after confirming both Rising Romance and Jessy Belle in the field.
A Group 1 winner, Rising Romance has returned to competition in typically slick form this time and is another horse that is drawn ideally into the Stocks Stakes field in barrier 4.
Resuming for a close second in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m), the Ekraar mare found the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) a little too sharp last time out, but will relish a return to mares’ company.
Jessy Belle produced a number of competitive efforts through a winter campaign this year; placing third in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) and fifth in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) most notably.
Clearly requiring a run when beating only one runner home on the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) first-up, the Rock Of Gibraltar mare ran on for a handy fourth in the Let’s Elope Stakes last time out.
