Only seven runners have been confirmed in the final field for Friday’s Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Amanpour broke through for a maiden Group 1 victory over the distance in autumn and remains tied $3.60 favourite in 2015 Stocks Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au alongside May’s Dream, ahead of Sardaaj ($4.40).
Will Amanpour return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Stocks Stakes, will May’s Dream salute or will one of their talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Fenway is weighted well, has been confirmed to be partnered by regular hoop Blake Shinn and will likely receive the run of the race from barrier 2, and offers punters exceptional value at 2015 Stocks Stakes odds of $6 for success. Returning this year for consecutive fourth place finishes in each of the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) and Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m), the High Chaparral mare was immediately led to the fore of the field in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and never relinquished her lead on the way to a maiden win at the highest level. Returning to the paddock after finishing second in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m), Fenway will have taken plenty of benefit from her first-up run will be very hard to beat in the Stocks Stakes.
Ungrateful Ellen ($9)
Arguably offering punters the best value for money in 2015 Stocks Stakes betting markets at a quote of $9 for success or $4 to finish in the places, Ungrateful Ellen will leave from barrier 3 with leading hoop Craig Williams aboard. Running fifth in the Australasian Oaks, Ungrateful Ellen progressed to third in the Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) before placing second behind Epsom Handicap favourite Winx in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) on May 30th. Also sure to have taken plenty of benefit from her return on September 19th, the Grey Swallow mare is weighted for success as a four-year-old.
Amanpour is yet to posted much of a competitive run of form through two starts this time but is undoubtedly offered her best chance of a return to competitive form in the 2015 Stocks Stakes. Claiming four wins and eight minors through 20 career starts so far, the Northern Meteor mare returned this year for sixth in the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m); progressing to second in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) before taking out the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships. Allocated the rails draw, Vlad Duric has picked up the ride on the mare for the 2015 Stock Stakes.
