The 2011 Stocks Stakes ran at Moonee Valley’s Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes Day last Saturday, September 10, with the Peter Moody-trained King’s Rose claiming success as the short-priced favourite.

Futures all-in betting showing top 24 horses.
The former New Zealand mare is now undefeated in Australia having earlier won the Group 2 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield and looks on track to tackle Australasia’s richest weight-for-age showdown, the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) back at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday October 22, 2011.
Four-year-old Redoute’s Choice mare King’s Rose produced a brilliant late burst to hang on and defeat the Greg Eurell-trained Pinker Pinker ($3.60), who was coming off a win in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes, by just a head, a win for the Luxbet punters who’d backed her into $2.70 favouritism.
Finishing off the winning Stocks Stakes 2011 Trifecta was last year’s third placegetter, Lady Lynette ($7).
King’s Rose firmed in the 2011 Cox Plate odds at Luxbet after her Stocks Stakes success, Australia’s leading bookmaker shortening their quote on her from $26 into $21 to become the first horse in history to take out the Stocks Stakes – Cox Plate double in the same season.
Cox Plate betting is still lead by the Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou, who ran third behind Rekindled Interest in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on the weekend.
Whobegotyou sits top of the Cox Plate odds at $7 while Rekindled Interest is at $8 to become this year’s Cox Plate hero.
The Stocks Stakes results saw King’s Rose boost her total career record to eight wins from 14 starts for $552,661 in prize money.
She is next scheduled to have a re-match with Pinker Pinker and face Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes winner Rekindled Interest in the $500,000 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at the famous Flemington Racecourse – home to the 2011 Melbourne Cup – on October 2.
