2010 Stocks Stakes Final Field & Betting Preview

September 9th, 2010

Fifteen classy mares have been accepted for the 2010 Stocks Stakes final field, due to run at Moonee Valley Racecourse this Saturday as one of the feature races on Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes Day.

The capacity field of hopefuls in the $200,000 Group 2 Cleanevent Stocks Stakes (1600m) is headlined by the Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume.

One of the early favourites to win the 2010 Melbourne Cup this November, Faint Perfume has drawn wide with barrier 11 for Saturday but is still likely to top the Stocks Stakes betting at Sportsbet.

The other highly rated mare in the Stocks Stakes is the Tony Vasil-trained Valdemoro also jumping out wide from barrier 13 and due to be ridden by Damien Oliver.

Valdemoro has a rich rivalry with Faint Perfume, having twice finished second to her last spring in the Crown Oaks and the Storm Queen Stakes.

The Encosta De Lago mare got her revenge last start, however, when she finished sixth in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield in August beating Faint Perfume who ran eighth at her first up spring start.

Two earlier races during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival have produced the most Stocks Stakes starters, the Memsie Stakes on August 28 and the Let’s Elope Stakes held last Saturday.

Mares backing up from a run in the Memsie as mentioned earlier are Valdemoro and Faint Perfume, while Lady Lynette, Mont Fleuri and Small Minds all contested the Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington last start.

Lady Lynette drawn well in barrier three is a top Each Way bet at Sportsbet in the Stocks Stakes

The Robert Smerdon-trained Lady Lynette finished an eye-catching fourth in the Let’s Elope Stakes and after drawing ideally in barrier three for the Stocks Stakes, the Nicholas Hall mount looks a top chance for an Each Way bet at Sportsbet.

The 2010 Cleanevent Stocks Stakes is scheduled as race eight at Moonee Valley on Saturday and is accompanied by two other feature Group races on the day.

The highlight race will be the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) featuring a star studded field including Cox Plate hopefuls Whobegotyou, Shoot Out and Typhoon Tracy.

Another event worth a punt on is the Group 3 McEwen Stakes (1000m) where Peter Moody’s super consistent gelding Reward For Effort is hard to go past.
