Stocks Stakes
The W H Stocks Stakes is a premier Group 2 race for thoroughbreds conducted at the time-honoured Moonee Valley Racecourse at the track’s first Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival meeting.
Run over 1,600m under weight-for-age conditions, the Group 2 W H Stocks Stakes is worth a lucrative $200,000 in prizemoney and is a mares-only event.
Two other group weight-for-age feature races are run at Moonee Valley on the same day as the W H Stocks Stakes, the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and the Group 3 McEwen Stakes (1000m), giving punters plenty of opportunities to win big on the races!

Earlier weight-for-age showdowns that are good lead-up races for horses on way to the W H Stocks Stakes include the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, the Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) and the Group 2 Memsie Stakes (1400m).
A good betting tip is to watch the top performers in these start-of-season races as an indication for the W H Stocks Stakes and then do all of your wagering at an online bookmaker and not at the TAB for the best odds.
The W H Stocks Stakes is a good preparatory race for horses heading towards more lucrative and prestigious events at Melbourne during spring including the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) in September.
The other race some of the higher quality W H Stocks Stakes runners may target is the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
This opens up some excellent betting doubles opportunities for punters as well!
